Analysis of the situation of a population in the Plaza de la Revolution municipality. Havana, Cuba

Introduction: Health Situation Analysis as an epidemiological tool is essential for establishing projections and strategies of the health system, since it makes it possible to identify differences between both populations and social groups, favoring better targeting of interventions that lead to greater success, in the provision of services and satisfaction of the population.
Objective: to characterize the health situation of a population in the Plaza de la Revolution municipality.
Material and methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in the community belonging to Family Medical Clinic No. 4 of the University Polyclinic "April 19", in the period between February 2018 and February 2019, using the epidemiological method. With a sample of 249 inhabitants distributed in 90 families.
Results: of the total population studied, 134 individuals belong to the female sex, the predominant age range was 65-69 years, 57,01 % of the population presents risk factors. Among the non-communicable diseases, Arterial Hypertension predominated with 30,52 %.
Conclusions: an aging trend was observed in the area. In chronic non-communicable diseases, hypertension was found to be the most prevalent, followed by bronchial asthma; while smoking was ranked as the most frequent risk factor.
