Introduction: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum is a bacterium of the Lactobacillaceae family, capable of carrying out lactic fermentation. It is a well-characterized probiotic strain and is reported to possess many health benefits. It possesses antibacterial, antioxidant and wound healing properties. Objective: to describe the efficacy of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum in patients with wounds. Method: a review of the scientific literature was carried out using PubMed, Cinahl and Scopus databases. We selected 5 studies carried out in the last 5 years, with full text and adequate methodological quality. Results: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum seems to be effective as an adjuvant in surgical debridement for patients with complicated diabetic foot ulcers, in second degree burns, in burn infections, in accelerating the healing process of burns, wound healing, alternative to antibiotics in wounds infected by resistant bacteria and in wound epithelialization. Conclusions: although the evidence reviewed seems to indicate that positive results can be expected from the use of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, the scarcity of scientific articles in this field and the small number of patients included in the studies is not sufficient to establish general recommendations. There is a need to increase the number of in vivo studies within this field and in this way it will be possible to offer patients the best care based on the latest demonstrated evidence.References
