Drug interactions and adverse reactions in patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome

Introduction: ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of mortality in the adult Cuban population. This nosological entity is main- ly observed in elderly patients with comorbidities, which constitutes a conditioning factor for the attending physician in the use of combination therapy.
Objective: to describe the appearance of pharmacological interactions and adverse reactions in patients admitted with acute coronary syndrome.
Method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome in the Coronary Intensive Care Service of the Hospital Universitario Clínico Quirúrgico "Co- mandante Manuel Fajardo" during the period from September to December 2019. The universe consisted of per 50 patients diag- nosed with ischemic heart disease. Descriptive statistics were used.
Results: the most frequent type of coronary insufficiency was acute unstable angina pectoris (68 %) with predominance in the female gender and in patients older than 70 years. At least two comorbidities were observed in 36 % of the patients, predominantly arterial hypertension (58 %). The most widely used cardiovascular drugs were clopidogrel (94 %) and aspirin (90 %). 253 drug interactions were detected, highlighting the aspirin-clopidogrel as- sociation (17.78 %). On the other hand, 107 adverse reactions were identified, the most frequent drugs causing these being aspirin (21.49 %) and atorvastatin (19.62 %).
Conclusions: the frequency of drug interactions and adverse reactions in patients admitted with acute coronary syndrome was high, mainly with drugs routinely used for the treatment of this entity.
