Clinical-epidemiological characterization of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. Juan Bruno Zayas Clinic-Surgical Hospital

Introduction: The most common form of oral cancer is the carcinoma of squamous cells, which is associated to a series of risk factors.
Objective: To characterize clinical and epidemiologically patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma assisted in the Maxillofacial Surgery consultation of the Juan Bruno Zayas Clinical-Surgical Hospital.
Material and Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study with16 patients in the Maxilofacial Surgery consultation of the Juan Bruno Zayas Clinical-Surgical Hospital of Santiago de Cuba Province from March 2015-January 2017 was performed.
Results: The oral squamous cell carcinoma prevailed in patients over 75 years.
The male sex was the more affected with 56.25%. The smoking habit was the one that prevailed with 100% and the retromolar space was the area of more establishment with 25%.
Conclusions: Oral squamous cell carcinoma prevails in patients over 75 years being the male sex the most affected one. The common habit of this population was smoking and the retromolar space I constitutes the most frequent area in localization.
